Applications and Uses of Diesel Generators

A diesel generator or diesel genset is a combination of a diesel engine and an electric generator. An electric generator is also known as an alternator. It is mainly used to generate electrical energy. The primary task of a diesel compression-ignition engine is to run on diesel fuel. A diesel generator is one of the useful machines that can produce electricity through the burning process of diesel fuel. Chemical energy which is converted into mechanical energy by diesel generators is mainly contained in diesel fuel. Here are the applications and uses of diesel generators –

1). Backup Power –

This machine is popularly used as a backup power source for commercial and residential places like homes, hospitals, businesses, and factories.

2). Agriculture –

There are many major tasks done through the diesel generators in the agriculture industry including irrigation pumps, grain dryers and other equipment.

3). Remote Locations –

Remote areas such as construction projects and mining sites, where the power grid is limited need the use of diesel generators.

4). Telecommunications –

These types of generators are also used to power cell phone towers and that’s why telecommunication is a major industry, where diesel generators are used widely.

5). Marine Industry –

Powering ships and boats is not an easy task in the marine industry, without using diesel generators. These machines are ideal for this task as well. Hence, we can say that diesel generators are widely used in the marine industry.

6). Industrial –

Another major industry segment, where these diesel-powered generators are used widely is industrial. Oil, mining, gas, construction, and manufacturing are the major industries, where diesel generators are used for powering machinery and heavy-duty equipment.
